Private Reserve Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2013

79.99

This is a really, really big Pinot Noir made from grapes from the La Encantada vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills.  We started out as Cabernet drinkers, so we like a bigger and bolder Pinot. We found the biggest flavored Pinot grapes we could and then aged them in 50% new French oak barrels to bring vanilla, allspice, cinnamon, mocha, clove, toffee and tannins to the party, to add to the natural red cherry, raspberry and currant flavors.

Wilfred Wong and a group of other high profile wine judges for The Critics Challenge have awarded this wine a 94!  The results are on this page.

And, a 97 by Rich Cook as a Platinum Review.

“Elegance.  Richness.  Depth.  Structure.  All hallmarks of a great wine, and all present and accounted for in this fabulous bottling from Skip and Maureen Coomber, who started making small lots of wine at the Terravant facility in Buellton back in 2009.  Cherry, floral, talc, and faint toffee aromas translate directly to flavors on the palate, all riding a wave of bracing acidity and a moderate grip that is maintained through a long, deeply complex finish.  Extremely well made wine that’s appropriate for your finest dinners.  A Platinum Award winner at the 2015 Critics Challenge International Wine Competition.

PINOT NOIR: Very full-bodied.  The Pinot Noir grapes that we use for our Private Reserve Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir come from the La Encantada vineyard.  These grapes naturally have red cherry, raspberry and currant flavors.  We age them in 50% new French oak barrels to bring vanilla, allspice, cinnamon, mocha, clove, toffee and tannins to the party.  You’ll enjoy the unique chocolate finish. Only 200 cases produced.
